How green is your garden,

So I have always had a slight green thumb but always lost interest really quickly when. Didn't get the results I wanted.i have spent the end of winter and spring preparing my front lawn so it is luscious and green.
The last few weeks I have been trying to get rid of all the weeds, kill the clover and green up my lawn. Some would say I am becoming slightly obsessed with it. There are cheaper alternatives to cleaning up the weeds then buying products from the hardware. I have tried both bought and homemade and both have the same effect, a dead weed! If you are short on money then try this, get yourself a spray bottle, fill it with vinegar, 2 tablespoons of sugar and a teaspoon of liquid soap. Spray the weed in the morning and watch it die over the next few days. Try not to water your lawn the day that you apply the weed killer as you don't want to wash away the spray. After a few waters, you will notice that the weed is gone and the grass is coming back through. I sprayed mine last week and in the pictures, you can see the brown spots. Over the next month, I will keep taking pictures

of my lawn to show you my progress. Let me know how green

is your front lawn.

Sick of the shit music... So am i!!!

The birth of Rock

This is something that can be argued back and forth about when was the exact dawn of rock music. Most opinions, you would say around the 1940's. When country and blues became more defined through electric guitars, drums an d bass and normally lyrics sung by a vocalist out the front. One of the pioneers of rock would be Chuck Berry. One of the naturals. His main emphasis was classic blues structure.
Through the 60's saw the up comings of a band which is still one of the biggest in the world today. The Rolling Stones. These guys could put on a concert today and still sell a million tickets i reckon.
Through the 70's came my biggest influence in my music career. Led Zeppelin. They paved the way for the more heavier rock round which opened up the door for so many other great bands. Led Zeppelin may of only had an 11 year run before losing hard hitter, John Bonham to the effects of vomiting while passed out. In 11 years they sold more then 100 million records in the US alone and the song Stairway To Heaven has been played on commercial radio more times then any other song in history. That's an awesome effort considering the song was never released as a single.
Although there are many other bands to have made a huge impact to the genre "Rock", these are the ones who in my eyes have laid a strong foundation and deserve the recognition.

Where did it all go so wrong?

Every year, one of the radio stations in Australia plays a Hottest 100. In the past, there have been some awesome rock acts take this out. To name a few you have got Muse, The Cranberries, Spiderbait, The Offspring, Oasis, Powderfinger(2 years in a row), Jet and many more awesome rock bands have been included in the Top 10. This year i did my voting. I searched through their a to z and saw a list of bands unknown to me. All in all, i managed to choose 7 songs instead of the 10 i was allowed to. This to me goes to show that the world we live in is slowing losing rock. It is sounding more like folk music to me. So many bands all playing the same style of music, all dressing the same and all getting somewhere on the radio. The big Day Out lineup this year had maybe 2 or 3 bands which i would of paid money for. The rest, i wouldn't be bothered wasting my money. I sit here now listening to the unsigned bands radio station and have not heard anything i seem to like. In the background i can hear Summerfield Dayze which is basically a really good excuse to go and take a million pills, wear silly glasses and dance around with glow sticks in your hands. Not my cup of tea. Bring on Soundwave. Bring on the bands who let it rip on stage. Smashing the drums as hard as they can and playing mesmerizing guitar solo's and getting the crowd involved at every moment. One band who is more successful now then what they ever have been would be Foo Fighters. I was lucky enough to see them in concert at the end of 2011 and i have to say that it was the greatest rock concert i have ever been to. Dave Grohl captivated all 37000 of us with his quirky tales and high energy set that lasted over 2 and a half hours. That is what i call rock and i thank them for bringing the thunder to our shores. If you keep making the music, we will keep listening. Thank you guys for show me that there is still a glimmer of hope alive for rock music everywhere.

The New Breed - What to listen out for

In Australia, we have been known to produce some heavy hitters in our time. Rock is in our blood and its something that a lot of us thrive off. When i am not being a father to my 3 kids or working my 9-5 job, i sing in an alternative rock band. Check us out. www.thesecretsilence.com We have been going for just over 12 months and i know that there are people out there who still love rock because we see them at our shows.
Other favorites of mine would have to be The Butterfly Effect, Dead Letter Circus, Floating Me and Helm. All awesome Aussie bands so if you get a chance, check them out. They should be doing big things in 2012.
